Start with the training question

What are you working on?

You do not need to understand the whole Tromplo catalogue before you begin. Start with the part of training that is visible now: a behavior that is difficult to build, a learner who is not returning, a cue that works only sometimes, a session that changed and you cannot yet explain why.

Five self-paced courses, two levels of depth

If you already know what you need, go straight to it. The three US$69 courses help you solve one clear training problem. Trainer’s Toolbox Parts 1 and 2 give you the wider system, from seeing and building behavior to strengthening, cueing, and troubleshooting it.

Choose the smallest route that can do the job.

A focused question does not automatically need a large course. A connected training problem may. These four routes are different in depth and purpose; the price should follow the work you need, not decide it for you.

Choose by the question in front of you.

Open the route that sounds closest. Inside, you will see where I would begin, what that route develops, and when another course is the better fit.

I am trying to build a behavior, but the learner is guessing.

Begin here when the terminal behavior is difficult to describe, the first useful movement is hard to evoke, criteria change too many things at once, or an old behavior keeps returning.

  • Shape Me Up! — Errorless Shaping is the complete construction system: observation, modules, prerequisites, criteria, reinforcement delivery, backchaining, duration, and stimulus control.
  • Trainer’s Toolbox Part 1 is broader. Choose it when behavior construction sits inside a larger acquisition plan that also needs measurement, teaching-method comparison, prompting, fading, and trainer mechanics.
The behavior exists, but it does not last.

Begin here only when the response form is already clear and repeatable. If form changes before time changes, return to behavior construction first.

  • Duration by Design builds one complete duration plan: onset, offset, trial boundary, baseline, loop, delivery, reset, procedure, criteria rules, and first-divergence comparison.
  • Trainer’s Toolbox Part 2 is the wider route when duration is one part of fluency, cue control, generalization, chains, fading, or troubleshooting.
The learner does not reliably join, stay, or return.

Separate two questions: is the learner ready and choosing to continue, or—when readiness is clear—is the route into the next repetition difficult?

  • Attention Please develops clear entry, focus, engagement, and return to training.
  • Let Me Want It! examines readiness, choice, withdrawal, return, and how communication changes the training arrangement.
Reinforcement is happening, but the next repetition changes.

Food, play, access, or release does not sit outside the teaching loop. Where, when, and how an outcome is delivered changes posture, location, pace, return, and what becomes likely next.

I know something changed, but I do not know what to fix first.

Start with the evidence boundary. The largest later error is not automatically the first useful change, and the first event in a sequence is not automatically causal.

  • What Changed First? is the focused route for one bounded sample: before, first visible change, later outcome, closest alternative, and missing evidence.
  • Trainer’s Toolbox Part 2 is the full system when you are ready to test criteria, cue packages, function hypotheses, prompts, chains, or one controlled variable.
  • Behavior Geek fits when the difficulty is conceptual: what a technical term means, whether the relation is supported, and what you can responsibly claim.
I am preparing a puppy or newly adopted dog for real life.

Socialization is not a race to expose the learner to as much as possible. Begin with participation, recovery, useful skills, and arrangements that let information be taken in safely.

I am building nosework or sport skills.

Choose the discipline-specific route when the training question is about search systems, odor, heelwork, position changes, chains, or performance foundations—not a general learning-science question in disguise.

Professional pathway in development

I want a structured professional pathway and assessment of my practice.

Course completion builds knowledge and skills. The planned Tromplo certificate is a separate assessment pathway for trainers ready to show complete sessions, raw data, evidence-based revisions, welfare decisions, and the limits of what their evidence supports.

If pain, illness, fear, fatigue, environmental stress, or safety may be primary, training analysis is not the first route. Pause and use the appropriate veterinary or qualified professional support.
